What an amazing weekend, and an incredible Sunday!
After Saturday's washout, with just one game completed, the re-written schedule for Sunday went very smoothly - the remainder of the 69-game schedule was wrapped up before 9PM.
Championship games were played under the lights, adding a nice finishing touch to a long but beautiful day.

Tournament place-winners...
Women's Champion - Outlaws
Women's 2nd Place - Team Nutrition
Men's D Champion - The Creek
Men's D 2nd Place - El Loro
Men's E Champion - Prestige Auto
Men's E 2nd Place - Wanderers
Men's E 3/4 Place  - Rochester Ford
Men's E 3/4 Place  - Buddy's

Saturday may have been a washout, but I sensed optimism throughout - we would get this tournament in - it was only a matter of when.  Late afternoon seemed possible, but the rain just kept on falling.  Evening had a chance.  The rains moved on, finally, but the the outfield were saturated, even though the infields looked playable with some work.  But, knowing that McQuillan would be hosting both a state seniors tournament and a girls national tournament in the next two weeks, it was decided to let the fields dry out overnight, and to go wall-to-wall on Sunday, expanding to six diamonds.

It worked.

Thank you teams for your patience and understanding - I heard no grumbling at all about the rescheduling process.
A HUGE thank you to my umpire crew. They put in between 9 and 11 games apiece, and two of them were not on the original schedule for Sunday!
Special thanks to my wife Clover for all of her efforts to keep the concession stand rockin'. To River, Aspen, and Libby, you were fantastic, hanging in there on such a long day. Thank you!

Summer Smash is a smashing success!

The inaugural RSA Summer Smash! Tournament showcased 15 teams from in and out of Rochester.  The weather cooperated, and 44 games were played on the way to determining a champion.

Well... not exactly.

It was a hot day at McQuillan, and two teams outlasted the competition to make it to the finals: Dick Raimann Farms and 63 Club.  But these two friendly rivals were wore out, and had some players needing to travel far to get home.  So yeah... like the old adage about kissing your sister, they chose not to play, thus sharing the title of Co-Champion.

Some RSA teams exceeded their expectation, as Plain White T's (mostly TH Handy and Goon Squad) pushed Grim Reapers (top seed in Single Elim, 3rd/4th finish) to eight innings before falling by one run.  Jag Tours also pushed the Reapers in the quarterfinals, before bowing out in a one-run game.  About half the field was made up of RSA teams and players.

A big thank you to all who participated in the tournament.  The concession crew was great - kudos to Hannah and her team.  The umpire crew was fabulous - way to go Gregg, Mark, Al, Jeff and Scott. (Yes I'm biased, but I still believe it!)  Hats off to RSA president Erik, serving as the field crew.  After turning left all weekend while dragging the field, it's time to spin around at some highway interchanges making right turns!
